Open Registration now at claimID with OpenID
June 23rd, 2006 - Terrell RussellIt’s finally live and I’d like to take this opportunity to announce we’re leaving our beloved beta.
Our registration form is now ready and willing to take your information and create a new claimID account. Come on in.
However, if you already have an OpenID account somewhere else on the web (LiveJournal, MyOpenID, Verisign’s PIP, etc.), you can create an account here without needing a password. We’ll still need to verify your email address - but passwords? So last year.
A small community has already begun to grow around our user base and we hope to add to the ranks in the coming weeks. We’ve got mailing lists for users and developers to communicate with one another and with us.
We’re going out of our way to be open and forthcoming with everything you see at claimID. Identity is too important to play games and it’s too personal to cover with ads. Join us and help make claimID better.
Anyone see those ninjas this time around? Love that.

just curious, but which openID library are you using, or did you roll your own?

Will, we’re proudly using the ruby-openid and ruby-yadis gems from JanRain on both the server and consumer side of claimID.

Fred, the meta-data at the bottom of posts is tiny in Firefox on Mac. Tweak the CSS and bump it up a few points. Oh, and congrats on being JustOuttaBeta.

claimID aperto a tutti…
Da qualche giorno claimID, il servizio che raccoglie in una pagina personale tutte le tracce che la nostra personalità lascia in giro per la rete, è aperto a tutti. In precedenza il sevizio era in versione beta con la possibilità di registrarsi so…

I created a claimID account (http://claimid.com/sindark) before realizing that I had an OpenID through my much neglected LiveJournal (http://sindark.livejournal.com/).
Is there any way to merge them, after the fact? If not, should I just abandon the new claimID account and re-add all my links to the LiveJournal connected one? I don’t understand the OpenID concept terribly well yet.

Milan - just verify your livejournal account to your claimid account. Just go into your account management stuff under OpenID.

Could you add SSL to the registration form? I’m reluctant to post *any* passwords without it

Phil, that’s on our todo. We’re going to smooth out some stuff with the openid user experience over the next few weeks, and https is definitely one of those things. Thanks for asking.

Great, thanks!

It blows up horribly with the OpenID-Server and OpenID-Comments plugins for MovableType.
If I attempt to login using my MT blog’s OpenID URL (http://groovymother.com/), I get taken to an error page. If I attempt to use my ClaimID URL (http://claimid.com/rodbegbie) to post a comment on an MT blog (eg. http://www.noisetosignal.org/tv/2006/07/ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha.php), it spirals into an endless redirect loop.

Rod, I’m not sure about it - but I’m pretty sure our forwarding and login is working to spec. We’re built on top of the JanRain libraries and we haven’t seen any problems anywhere else.
I was just able to log in directly to http://www.livejournal.com/openid with my claimID URL without any trouble.
Please post any other information you have with specifics and we’ll track this down.
Thanks,
Terrell
